About Us

Mission

Our mission is to provide each patient with individualised orthopaedic care from their first consultation through to recovery.

We take the time to understand each patient’s condition, explain the available treatment options and agree on a treatment plan that is appropriate for them. When surgery is needed, careful planning, precise surgical technique and appropriate rehabilitation form an important part of achieving a good outcome.

Excellence in movement

Modern, evidence-based orthopaedic care with a focus on hip and knee replacement, precision surgical technique and excellent patient outcomes.

Values

Excellence

We aim for a high standard of care in every aspect of a patient’s treatment.

Precision

Careful assessment, planning and attention to detail are central to the way we approach treatment

Patient-Centred Care

We listen, explain treatment options clearly and involve patients in decisions about their care.

Integrity

We provide clear, evidence-based advice and recommend treatment based on what is appropriate for each patient.

Meet Dr Gumani Mametja

Dr Gumani Mametja is an orthopaedic surgeon with a fellowship training in hip and knee arthroplasty. He completed a dedicated fellowship training in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, gaining further experience in the assessment and management of complex hip and knee conditions, as well as both primary and revision joint replacement surgery.

His practice focuses on modern approaches to joint replacement. In hip replacement surgery, Dr Mametja performs the Direct Anterior Approach, a muscle-sparing surgical technique in which the hip is accessed from the front through a natural interval between muscles. In knee replacement surgery, he has a particular interest in kinematic alignment, an individualised approach that aims to restore the patient’s natural knee joint mechanics.

Alongside his arthroplasty practice, Dr Mametja has extensive experience in orthopaedic trauma management, including fractures and other musculoskeletal injuries. This allows him to manage a broad range of injuries, from common fractures to more complex injuries requiring surgical treatment.

For Dr Mametja, good orthopaedic care starts with making the right diagnosis and understanding what the patient hopes to achieve. Surgery is not automatically the first option. Where appropriate, non-operative treatment options are considered and discussed. When surgery is recommended, patients are taken through the reasons for surgery, the available options and what they can realistically expect from their recovery.

His approach combines careful planning, precision in surgery and evidence-based treatment, while recognising that every patient and every joint is different.
